Boolean search to find the right remote job listing for you.

Learning how to use boolean to find the right remote job is the key to finding your first ever remote job with no experience. Find your first remote job using boolean operators in Google by using conditions and filters you get remote jobs that only you can find and suit you.

1) Introduction to find online work

An IT recruiter once taught me how to find candidates for job offers by applying some conditions (boolean operators) in Google search. These conditions help Google to find specific candidates based on the requirements. Since the goal of rem0tework.com is to help as many people find their first remote job, we can use these same techniques to find remote job vacancies for you to apply for. If you are not comfortable using these commands, you can use section 4, Google advanced search. We have a lot of examples of how to use these search queries with boolean operators that you can copy and edit according to your wishes.
We do our very best to explain everything from the basics until the highest complexity.
We have invested a lot of time and energy in creating this page for you and think it will contribute to our goal of helping 1 million people find a remote job before 1-7 -2024.

Note: This page is still being worked on and is not yet finished.

Female copywriter concentrated on remote job, prepares publication, watches webinar to improve skills, reads message, installs new application, uses free internet connection, smiles happily.

We did so many test searches that Google thinks that we were a robot! If you click a lot of our boolean search queries you might also have to click that you are not a robot.

2) Executive summary

If you like to know everything with examples and why, skip this section and read the rest of this page. Suppose that you are a software developer looking for a remote job.
HTML, CSS and SQL are your favourite languages.
You don’t like php, java and javascript
So this is your Google query:
Html AND Css AND Sql intitle:”software developer” -php -java -javascript
Note: only “AND”, “NOT”, “OR” works, “and”, “not”, “or” doesn’t work.
Wth Quotes, Google will show you results that match exactly.

The remote job you are looking for might have different variations:
(“personal assistant” OR “virtual assistant” OR “remote assistant” OR “online assistant” OR “online secretary” OR “virtual secretary”)

Maybe the job title would look more like this:
(“web developer” OR “web designer” OR “webdesigner” OR “website programmer”)

And it is advised to add this block to make sure that you only get remote job results from your search. At least one of these words need to be on the page in order to come back on the results.
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply) “software developer” -hybrid -office -on-site

(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply) “software developer” -hybrid -office -on-site

You can build your own query with conditions and filter and paste them in Google search.
Please check in basics how to only show results from “this week”. (tools => last week)

I highly recommend you to look at section 10) hope to get notifications, an advanced technique that can save you a lot of time.

Basics for using boolean search to find a job and work remotely

Further in on this webpage, you will find a lot of queries, blocks or text designed to instruct the Google search engine.
Next to each query, you have a button to open a new window where you can search for that specific query and see the results for yourself.

Tip: you can open a new window with theGoogle search engine and make some adjustments yourself to learn how to customise your boolean search to find a remote job.

How to only see the Google search results from last week:

When you perfor a search in Google to find a remote job, you get many results including old ones. Popular jobs get filled in the first week usually. So filtering your remote job search results on last week is important. This way, you get remote job vacancies that you have a much higher chance on to get hired.

Let’s see how you can filter for past week results step by step.

First, you open Google and you search for your remote job search criterea, for example:

intitle:Frontend Engineer AND intitle:Remote Europe

Then, you click on “Tools”

“Any time” and “All results” appear

By clicking “Any time” you can select to see the results for example from last week.

Now you can see that “Past week”is activated. To remove this filter, you can click on “Clear”.

Normally you see the amount of search results under the Google search bar. When you can NOT see that number, this means that you have some Tools filter active.

3) Getting started: let’s start our Boolean search adventure

These are some boolean operators that we will explain: AND, OR, () “” – site: location:
Note: only “AND”, “OR” with upper case (big) letters works, “and”, “or” doesn’t work. We will show you and use a lot of examples how to use these later in this article.
NOT or AND NOT doesn’t work in Google search so you can use the “-” sign for example -linkedin.com. This shows you the search results without the domainLinkedIn.com.

1) You can copy any of our example text strings with boolean operators and paste them in Google search to see the results for yourself. You can make changes to location and use tools => last week to get the best results for you.

Suppose that you are looking for a remote front-end web design job based in spain.
Normally you would search in Google something like:

front-end job html css spain giving you 11 milion results (august 2022)

front-end job html css spain

fully-remote front-end job html css spain returning 2 million results

(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply) “software developer” -hybrid -office -on-site

Testing more…

Now let’s use some boolean operator to help you get much less and better results.

Now let’s use some boolean operator to help you get much less and better results.
front-end AND (job OR apply) AND html AND css location:Spain (584.000) results

front-end AND HTML AND CSS AND fully-remote location:Spain (512.000 results)

If you don’t like Photoshop and you don’t want to be a freelancer:
front-end AND HTML AND CSS AND fully-remote location:Spain -Photoshop
-freelance -freelancer
(503.000 results)

Maybe you have experience in CPP programming but this can be written as CPP or C++ you can use: AND (CPP OR C++)

front-end AND HTML AND CSS AND (CPP OR C++) AND fully-remote location:Spain -Photoshop -freelance -freelancer

(only 5.660 results)

Note: Google has about 92% of the share in search engine market share so normally any remote job that you are looking for, you can find with Google. Also some other search engines might not apply or understand the Boolean search operators correctly.

How do the “Quotes”or Quotation marks (“”) work?
If you search for “remote exec assistant jobs” I have 1 result in Google. Without the quotes remote exec assistant jobs returns 66 million results. You are telling Google that you only like to see the results matching exactly what is between the “Quotes”.
Suppose that you are looking for a virtual assistant job, normally you would probably search for: virtual assistant with 679 million results. However using the “Quotes” “virtual assistant” only gets you 27 million results. Searching for “virtual administrative assistant” only gives 104.0000 results while without quotes there are 119 million results. The quotes make a huge difference in telling Google exactly what you are looking for.

4) Google advanced search to find a remote job

It might be hard to understand exactly how to use the boolean search operators. For some simpeler combinations, you can just use Google advanced search.

After you have performed a Google search, you can go to the settings wheel right or the search bar. This brings up the side panel Quick settings. There you can click on the Advanced search button.

This is the Google advanced search screen with a form and the fields that you can fill in:

Google advanced search fields description:
In Field1, you please all the words that you like to see in your results. For example HTML and CSS for a front-end programmer. If you have a combination of words that needs to be exactly in the search results, you place it in field 2 for example remote first.
in field 3 any of these words, you can put job apply and jobs for example.
If you do not like for example a remote job with SQL or with PHP, you can enter those words in the field none of these words.
In box 5 you can select in what Language you like the results to be and in 6 which country.
Field 7 you can select when the page is last updated. and in 8 you can place a domain that you like to see the results from for example LinkedIn.com
This advanced field does not have all the options that you can have with manual programming of the boolean operators but it will definitely help you to find a remote job much more efficiently than the normal Google search would.

5) How to find remote jobs with boolean operators in Google search

The key is to keep adding more filters or conditions until the results get highly relevant. The lower the number of search results that you get, the more accurate and specific they are.

When you are looking for a remote job, you like any of these words to come back in your search results:

  • remote
  • remotely
  • fully remote
  • fully-remote
  • remote first
  • remote-first
  • 100% remote
  • work from anywhere (WFA)
  • Work from home (WFH)
  • Digital Nomad (a person working and travelling at the same time)
  • All-Remote

To find your first ever remote job you can start your search query with:
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”)

Question:
What is the difference between these two lines of boolean search queries?
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote”)
(remote AND remotely AND “fully remote”)
Answer:
OR returns the results for any of these words while using AND means that all of the words have to be in the page in order to show in the results.

You do not want anything to do with hybrid, office or on-site.
So you can add at the end of your search query: -hybrid -office -on-site

(jobs OR job OR apply) makes sure that the results are mostly job offers

Examples of boolean use for remote jobs:
Suppose that you are looking for a virtual assistant job remote you can already start with:

(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply) “virtual assistant” -hybrid -office -on-site
(1,05 million results)

By telling Google that the virtual assistant job description needs to be intile: the results drop to 244.000 results.
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply) intile:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (244.000)

If you then apply tools => last week, like explained in basics before, your list has already become much more relevant and specific. There is no boolean search operator to filter the results from last week as far as we could find.

Everyone of these gives a different result!
intitle:remote intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (14.400)
intitle:remote intitle:”virtual assistant” -hybrid -office -on-site (5480)
intitle:remotely intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (828)
intitle:”fully remote” intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (284)
intitle:”remote first” intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (3.910)
intitle:remote-first intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (2)
intitle:”100% remote” intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (2780)
intitle:”work from anywhere” intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (152)
intitle:Wfh intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (1030)

Note: with these boolean remote work searches, you can find jobs that nobody else can! This means that your chance of getting hired when you apply for them is much bigger!

You have to think differently when you are looking for a remote job.
Companies like Appen hire worldwide. It doesn’t matter if you live in Europe, Asia, Africa or the USA. You can get hired by them anyway. I am not sure if they adjust the salary according to the economic level of the country that you live in.

How to use hashtags and boolean to find jobs

Content research for rem0tework.com
An example of how we use boolean search for our research.
While writing a section about getting your first remote job, a part of preparing for the first remote job interview.
We like to add a section with a good idea of what questions to expect for the remote job interview.
Note: searching for Remote job Interview Questions in Google gives 103 million results!

After trying some combinations, we ended up using this search phrase that gave very good quality results:
allintitle:Remote job Interview Questions (385 results)

To get some insights of the best answers we searched for:
allintitle:remote job interview questions and answers (only 10 highly relevant results)
So we removed the AND from the words
allintitle:remote job interview questions answers (73 highly relevant results)

With a similar boolean operator search query we found what questions you should ask when you have a remote job interview:
allintitle:questions ask remote job interview (130 results)

allintitle:online job interview questions (1740 results)

Dach => Germany, Austria and Switzerland

6) Filtering search results based on the level of experience
Suppose that you are looking for your first ever remote job with no experience. You would like to be a virtual assistant ###link to virtual assistant page### because that is an entry level online job that anyone can get.

These are some examples of levels of experience that you might like to filter the remote job search results on:

  • Internship
  • intern
  • entry level
  • entry-level
  • junior
  • traineeship
  • trainee
  • beginner
  • starter
  • medior
  • mid level
  • senior
  • executive
  • professional
  • manager
  • director

You are a beginner or starter so your level is going to be:
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter)
We need to exclude the highest levels that we are not looking for:
-senior -executive -professional
Add the section that helps us to find a remote job:
(“fully remote” OR “remote first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) -hybrid -office -on-site
We are looking for a job post: (job OR jobs OR apply)

All put together this search query becomes:
(“fully remote” OR “remote-first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply OR CV) AND (internship OR “entry OR level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site -senior -executive -professional (8.070 results)
You will only get results for remote jobs, entry-level with virtual assistant in the page title.

Note: by changing the job title virtual assistant to what kind of job you are looking for, you can easily find remote jobs for you.

Because all the remote words are already in your boolean search, you can also search for job titles like secretary, translator, assistant, personal assistant, general assistant. You will still get the remote results because of the conditions that are added to that search.

Example personal assistant:
(“fully remote” OR “remote-first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply OR CV) AND (internship OR “entry OR level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) intitle:personal assistant -hybrid -office -on-site -senior -executive -professional (1.430 results)

Here are some sections of the results that confirm what we are looking for:
Jun 9, 2022 — This position requires a person that has good knowledge in spreadsheet and Microsoft excel. Flexible work hours and can work from anywhere.

Apply to Female Personal Assistant jobs now hiring in London on … Health care assistant full time Barking IG11 … Editorial Assistant – Fully Remote

…native speakers fluent in English to talk to our customers who are interested in online education products. It is a part time job fully remote.

Note: there is no limit to how many conditions or words you can use in Google search.
As long as you use the right definition the query can be practically endless. Google will work as hard as possible for you to find the perfect remote job free of charge.

Example search query for translator starter remote job:
(“fully remote” OR “remote-first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply OR CV) AND (internship OR “entry OR level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) intitle:translator -hybrid -office -on-site -senior -executive -professional (1.040 results)

Great result:

If you are looking for a medior to advanced level remote job, these are your keywords:

  • medior
  • mid level
  • mid-level
  • senior
  • executive
  • professional
  • manager

You can use this block of boolean conditions to your search:
(medior OR “mid level” OR mid-level OR senior OR executive OR professional OR manager)
And we will exclude starter levels remote jobs:
-internship -”entry level” -entry-level -junior -beginner -starter

The whole mid-level to senior remote job search query then becomes:
(“fully remote” OR “remote-first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply OR CV) AND
(medior OR “mid level” OR mid-level OR senior OR executive OR professional OR manager)
intitle:personal assistant -hybrid -office -on-site -internship -”entry level” -entry-level -junior -beginner -starter (9.330 results)

Note: to make a remote job search query, you can start with the conditions. then “intitle:” the job description and the last part are the exclusions.

We are getting great results:

Tip: when you are using boolean operators to find your ideal remote job, keep checking the quality and relevance of your search results while you are making some adjustments. You can use A/B testing to see what works and what not. We have tried many combinations that did not work but found ways to get the results that we wanted. If you take some time to learn how to find your first remote job, the application and motivational letter will be much easier because the job fits you and you like it. You will be motivated to get hired and recruiters and hiring managers will see that motivation in you.

Suppose that you are looking for a Medior to experienced level virtual assistant job specialised in financial, administrative or bookkeeping work, you can add:
(administration OR administrative OR financial OR bookkeeping OR “book keeping”)

The whole query then becomes:
(“fully remote” OR “remote-first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply) AND (medior OR “mid level” OR mid-level OR senior OR executive OR manager) AND (administration OR administrative OR financial OR bookkeeping OR “book keeping”) intitle:personal assistant -hybrid -office -on-site -senior -executive -professional (8.610 results)

Suppose that you are a freelancer but you do not like the jobboards like Upwork.com, fiverr.com and freelancer.com. You are looking for a starter remote job as a graphics designer, this could be your search query:
(“fully remote” OR “remote-first” OR “remote first” OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply OR CV) AND (internship OR “entry OR level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) intitle:graphics designer -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com (9180 results)

A great example of a result from this remote jobsearch:
Web3 Graphics Designer Any at Polygon

Tip: by using Tools => “last week” or even “24 hours” you get remote job results that have just become available. How to apply this filter, you can see in section 3 of this page.

7) Narrowing and broadening your remote job search

You can use the boolean work from home job search to narrow your results. Making your search more accurate and relevant matching exactly what you are looking for. The more a remote job vacancy matches your profile and experience, the better chances you have to get a remote job interview and to get hired for your first ever remote job. So narrowing your search is essential to find the right job vacancy and to get hired.

In the second part, we show you how to broaden your remote job search. If you get a very low number of results, you can make some changes to your remote job search to get more results.

Let’s look at some simple and effective ways to narrow your job search:
virtual assistant remote (168 million results)
“virtual assistant” AND remote (5,2 million results)
“virtual assistant” AND remote AND spain (883.000)
“virtual assistant” AND remote AND spain NOT freelance (494.000)
“virtual assistant” AND remote AND spain AND freelance AND administrative (296.000)
intitle:virtual assistant AND remote AND spain AND freelance AND administrative (73.600)
allintitle:administrative virtual assistant (7.990)
allintitle:virtual assistant europe (503)
allintitle:remote assistant europe (239)
allintitle:remote assistant spain (167)
allintitle:virtual assistant spain (648)
allintitle:online assistant spain (117)
allintitle:virtual administrative assistant (7520)
allintitle:virtual administrative assistant spain (6 results)

Starting with 168 million results, we went to 6 results only from Google. Please take a moment to observe the method that we used to narrow down the search.

How to use “intitle:” and “allintitle:”
“allintitle:” the order of the words is not important but all these words have to be in the title in order to show up in the results. “intitle:” doesn ot always work well when you use several words. The difference between intitle:”virtual administrative assistant” (2.250) and allintitle:virtual administrative assistant (7.520) is that the second option allows any order of the words in the title. While intitle:virtual administrative assistant clearly does NOT work because there are 506.000 results.

allintitle:virtual administrative assistant intext:spain (6 results)
allintext:remote “administrative assistant” spain (6 results)
allintext:remote job “administrative assistant” flexible working hours spain (585.000 results)

allintext:remote job “virtual assistant”

You can make these boolean searches yourself. Suppose that you are looking for a virtual assistant job fully remote in spain as a freelancer and you like to do administrative tasks:
“virtual assistant” AND “fully remote” AND spain AND freelance AND administrative (33.000)

Or Bookkeeping
“virtual assistant” AND “fully remote” AND spain AND freelance AND bookkeeping (30.100)

Maybe you like the results WITHOUT linkedin:
“virtual assistant” AND “fully remote” AND spain AND freelance AND bookkeeping -linkedin (24.900)

Or you like to work as a SEO virtual assistant:
“virtual assistant” AND “fully remote” AND spain AND freelance AND SEO (5680)

Or customer service
“virtual assistant” AND “fully remote” AND spain AND freelance AND “customer service” (5.670)

While if you leave out the AND operators: “virtual assistant” “fully remote” spain freelance “customer service” (5.670) becomes (33.800)

Super tip: Many job applicants search only on LinkedIn. By using boolean search or Google advanced search, you can find many jobs that get just a few job applicants. This increases your chances of getting your first remote job significantly! You will get invited for a job interview and your chance of getting hired is much higher!

Using the location tag in Boolean search

The last few searches are not giving a lot of results so:
“virtual assistant” AND( “fully remote” OR remotely) AND spain AND freelance AND “customer service” (5670)

By storing some of these links in a text document or spreadsheet, you can just click them once a week and see which new job vacancies are added that you might be interested in applying for.

How to use variations to find a larger number of remote jobs

You should make your own variations of which words you use, what conditions and how you will use boolean search for finding your remote job. The examples that we use here are just to explain how to use the booleans.

(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply OR cv) “web developer” -hybrid -office -on-site location:spain
(41.300)

Suppose that you have a LinkedIn profile that you like to use to apply, you can get results only for the site linkedin: (site:linkedin.com)
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (job OR apply) “web developer” -hybrid -office -on-site location:spain site:linkedin.com
(1790 results)

Suppose that you have a LinkedIn profile that you like to use to apply, you can get results only for the site linkedin: (site:linkedin.com)
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”) AND (jobs AND view) “web developer” -hybrid -office -on-site location:spain site:linkedin.com
(1790 results)

Maybe you have your online CV on site:glassdoor.com or Indeed: site:indeed.com. The easy apply function immediately sending your CV to the employer to apply for the job can save you a lot of hassle in creating an account and filling in all the fields of for example your work experience.

Exercise:
https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_toggle_hide_show.asp

Note: these boolean searches can be used to find office based, hybrid or local job also.
You can simply change the terms and words to look for.

To Freelance or not?
Let’s take a random query
“virtual assistant” AND “fully remote” AND spain AND freelance AND “customer service” (5670)

if you wish to broaden your search, you can remove the “” of the intitle:fully remote. (was i
intitle:”fully remote”)
allintitle:fully remote “virtual assistant” -hybrid -office -on-site (1520)

Now the number of remote job search results goes from 284 to 1400.
intitle:fully remote intitle:virtual assistant -hybrid -office -on-site (1400)
By removing the Quotes, you allow Google to give you broader results.
Still the results are very relevant.

8) Use Google to search LinkedIn or other websites jobs
Did you know that Google can search much better for jobs in LinkedIn than the linkedin job search function can?
When you go to LinkedIn, jobs and search for frontend developer, in Spain with the LinkedIn filter “remote” my first result actually is a backend developer, exactly what I am NOT looking for. (1412 results)
Link:
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/search/?distance=25.0&f_WT=2&geoId=105646813&keywords=frontend%20developer&location=Spain
Also when a company that has a remote job vacancy pays a fee, LinkedIn makes the job look like it was just posted. But in reality maybe the remote job posting is already several months old. Google can also help us to only find newly posted remote jobs on LinkedIn.

We are going to look for “frontend developer”

As a remote job with any of these terms:
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first
OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”)

The website of LinkedIn is structured that job postings have these words in the URL:

We are looking in Spain so
location:”Spain”

(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”)
“frontend developer”
site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/
location:”Spain”
(1460 results)

We still see some backend remote job listings in the results, so we add -backend -back-end
(remote OR remotely OR “fully remote” OR fully-remote OR “remote first” OR remote-first OR “100% remote” OR “work from anywhere”)
“frontend developer”
site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/
location:”Spain”
-backend -back-end
(519 results)

We can now apply the tools => last week or even 24 hours to get only recently updated jobs.
With “past week” applied, you get very clean results and only 15 listings on two pages.

https://www.google.com/search?q=(remote+OR+remotely+OR+%22fully+remote%22+OR+fully-remote+OR+%22remote+first%22+OR+remote-first+OR+%22100%25+remote%22+OR+%22work+from+anywhere%22)+%E2%80%9Cfrontend+developer%E2%80%9D+site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/+location:%E2%80%9DSpain%E2%80%9D+-backend+-back-end&tbs=qdr:w&sxsrf=ALiCzsa0Jc4zJ41-rTT8OQS-X8zLCHqdNA:1656369641128&ei=6TG6YoKpB5a7sAedt5WgAQ&start=10&sa=N&ved=2ahUKEwjCwc3g2c74AhWWHewKHZ1bBRQQ8tMDegQIARA4&biw=1792&bih=931&dpr=2

Lets search for remote jobs on LinkedIn from a different approach.
All jobs on LinkedIn start with this URL: site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/
Many remote jobs have the word “Remote” in the job title. intitle:Remote
And we are still looking for frontend developer.

With Remote in the title, frontend developer and only linkedin jobs:
intitle:Remote “frontend developer” site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/
(51.600)

intitle:Fully remote “frontend developer” site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/
(2140 results)

EMEA means Europe Middle East Africa.
EMEA “frontend developer” site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Fully remote
(169 results)

Note: if you have a LinkedIn profile and you like to apply with it, searching just for remote jobs on LinkedIn will save you a lot of time.

Suppose that you are looking for a starter position with little or no experience:

  • internship
  • entry level
  • entry-level
  • junior
  • beginner
  • starter

You can make a search that has all of these options but at least one of them is needed.
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(61.700 results)

Tip: with remote work you need to think differently. Instead of searching for your city, your province or your country you can search for your continent like Europe or your section of the world which is for example EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa)

With Europe:
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND Europe “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(2470 results)

With EMEA:
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(19.300 results)

With EMEA without Europe:
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -Europe -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(254 results)
All these 254 results are perfect job vacancies that you can apply for a remote job. All of them are entry level as searched for.

Lets see only for the internships:
internship AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(297 results)

Lets see only for the internships:
(internship OR intern) AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(23 results)

intitle:intern* AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote

We can specialise a bit more for example intitle:Frontend Developer
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
intitle:Frontend Developer
(195 results)
When I use Tools => past week, my results are down to 2 listings, one page only.
This is how powerful boolean search for remote work can be.

https://www.google.com/search?q=(internship+OR+%22entry+level%22+OR+entry-level+OR+junior+OR+beginner+OR+starter)+AND+EMEA+%22frontend+developer%22+-desarrollador+-desarrolladora+site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/+intitle:Remote+intitle:Frontend+Developer&sxsrf=ALiCzsaYWbHW767EzDn9jr1eG03WvPnriw:1656370100067&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:w&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi78Li72874AhWY7rsIHZe9Dq0QpwV6BAgBEBc&biw=1792&bih=931&dpr=2

Note: the number of results can vary all the time.

To broaden this remote job search, we can make a few changes. intitle:(Frontend OR front-end) leaving out the word developer and adding the combination of front-end

(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
intitle:(Frontend OR front-end)
(782 results)

Note: “Junior Frontend Engineer Remote Europe” returns 383.000 results so using the boolean operators to find a good remote job is great to find exactly what you are looking for.

If you prefer to look at the results outside of LinkedIn:
intitle:Frontend Engineer AND intitle:Remote Europe -site:linkedin.com
(4320 results)

Tip: LinkedIn is in many countries one of the most used platforms for jobs AND candidates. By searching outside of LinkedIn for remote jobs, you will find jobs that have a lot less candidates applying for them. Your chances of getting an interview for the remote job and getting hired is much higher.

LinkedIn frontend developer with Europeand Remote in the title:
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND Europe “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
(2470 results)

(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND Europe “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote Europe
(2200 results)

Note: we give a lot of examples that you can click, copy and edit so that you can see how this works and it’s much easier to understand.

(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND Europe “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:”Remote Europe”
(158 results)

(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND Europe “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote Europe
(2200 results)

If you are looking for a remote software job but not sure which one you can for example use:
(internship OR “entry level” OR entry-level OR junior OR beginner OR starter) AND EMEA “frontend developer” -desarrollador -desarrolladora site:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ intitle:Remote
intitle:software
(457 results)

Tip: When you are making boolean searches for jobs to work remotely, keep checking the results if they are improving by going through them.
On the bottom of the Google search results, you can open results page number 5 and see what you can find there. To find exactly what you are looking for, the total number of results should be under 2000 and all results should bring you relevant remote job vacancies.

A third approach in finding remote jobs can be:
intitle:Frontend Engineer AND intitle:Remote Europe
(4950 results)

intitle:Frontend Engineer AND intitle:Remote Europe AND Junior
(7500 results)

intitle:Frontend Engineer AND intitle:Remote Europe AND entry-level
(1430 results)

APAC = Asia pacific region
intitle:developer AND intitle:Remote AND intitle:APAC (245 results)

EU = European Union
intitle:developer AND intitle:Remote AND intitle:EU (1340 results)

EMEA
intitle:developer AND intitle:Remote AND intitle:EMEA (1080 results)

NA (North America)
intitle:developer AND intitle:Remote AND intitle:NA (1800 results)

USA
intitle:developer AND intitle:Remote AND intitle:USA (7130 results)

US
intitle:developer AND intitle:Remote AND intitle:US (9820 results)

Suppose you are looking for a front end job remote, in Europe but you like to see the results WITHOUT LinkedIn.com, without glassdoor.com and without Indeed.com
intitle:Frontend Engineer “remote first” -site:linkedin.com -site:indeed.com -siteglassdoor.com
(6800 results)

Maybe you like a 100% remote job or company, add 100% remote between quotes to your search for a remote job:
intitle:Frontend Engineer AND AND “100% remote” -site:linkedin.com
(900 results)

Let’s check how to find jobs on Indeed
inurl:indeed.com/viewjob “software developer”
(842 results)

How to find jobs on Glassdoor
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job “software developer” (345.000 results)
This returns all pages with glassdoor.com/Job in the url and anywhere on the page software developer.
However when you request that software developer will be in the tile:
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job intitle:”software developer” 16.700 results)
You go from 345.000 to 16.700 results only.

Some more examples
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job “software programmer” (4290 results)
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job intitle:”software programmer” (447 results)
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job “webdeveloper” (889 results)
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job intitle:”webdeveloper” (7 results)
So the intitle: is a very powerful boolean operator to find remote jobs.

By taking this search string “inurl:glassdoor.com/Job intitle:”software developer”
and using the Tools => past 24 hours at this moment in time I only get 7 results.
This way, you can click every day this link and get the remote jobs that you have filtered with the boolean operators. You can apply the same day for a newly posted job. Finding a job that was just listed that day heavily increases your chances because you will be one of the if not THE first job applicant!

https://www.google.com/search?q=inurl:glassdoor.com/Job+intitle:%22software+developer%22&sxsrf=ALiCzsbxPLSmNJu1Q2ZYnqAWrL7huuRnWA:1656295523151&source=lnt&tbs=qdr:d&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjzrbPSxcz4AhUMNxoKHbznDKIQpwV6BAgBEBY&biw=1792&bih=931&dpr=2

Note: your goal is to find a remote job regardless of what platform. So you can perform remote job searches that combine the most used platforms.

Note: simplyhired.com serves the jobs dynamically from a database. This unfortunately means that adding inurl:simplyhired.com/job/ does not work.

Google jobs seems to only list (index) other job sites so there is no advantage to search them or add this URL to your remote job search.

How you can search your jobs over multiple platforms:
Unfortunately it looks like Google does not support searching over multiple domains with the inurl operator.
So the only way is to:
inurl:glassdoor.com/Job “webdeveloper” (889 results)
inurl:indeed.com/viewjob “webdeveloper” (2 results)
inurl:linkedin.com/jobs/view/ “webdeveloper” (1710 results)
inurl:careerbuilder.com/job/ “webdeveloper” (3 results)
You can store these links in a word document or spreadsheet so you can just click them later.

How can you exclude popular platforms from your remote job search?
There are many job applicants on LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Indeed.
Or for freelancers Upwork.com, fiverr.com and freelancer.com
Excluding all these domains from your search will help you to find jobs where you will have less competition. Less applicants means that your chances increase.

One more time how you specialise your search results:
freelance SEO (26 million)
“freelance SEO” (289.000)

“freelance SEO” -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (173.000)

OR exclude some others:
“freelance SEO” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com (165.000)

If you are tired of all of the popular domains, just use:
“freelance SEO” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (165.000)

Narrow the remote job search for example by:
intitle:“freelance SEO” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (11.500)

OR
intitle:“freelance SEO” AND “Fully-remote” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (215 results)

OR
intitle:“freelance SEO” AND “Remote” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (651 results)

What about SEO specialist
intitle:“SEO specialist” AND “Remote” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (8.840 results)

Narrowed by location Spain
intitle:“SEO specialist” AND “Remote” location=”spain” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (5 results)

Narrowed by location USA
intitle:“SEO specialist” AND “Remote” location=”USA” -upwork.com -fiverr.com -freelancer.com -glassdoor.com -indeed.com -linkedin.com (9 results)

If you are a developer, you might like a job board specialised in that.
You can also use the boolean operators to find that job board:
(“jobboard” OR “job board) AND (remote OR remotely) AND (“developer” OR “programmer” OR “software”) AND (job OR jobs OR apply)

You can find for example:
https://fullstackjob.com/
ticjob.es/eng/job/
https://devitjobs.uk/
https://germantechjobs.de/
flowremote.io/jobs/
https://devitjobs.nl/

Since some remote job boards

Note: usually in the results I get a block of Google jobs. I haven’t found anything useful on it at all and I don’t understand why it is at the top of the results. So I skip it or even just go to the second page of the results.

9) How can you find the url extension of a job website to only get job results?

Let’s take a look at for example CareerBuilder.com

Enter any job title and click Search.

Now right-click with your mouse on a job link and select “open link in new tab”.

Look at the URL for the job and select “careerbuilder.com/job/”
So let’s use this string to build a boolean search inurl:careerbuilder.com/job/
inurl:careerbuilder.com/job/ intitle:”software developer”
Only 3.500 search results while a Google search for “careerbuilder software developer” delivers 1,05 million results. (######link!! ########)

https://www.google.com/search?q=careerbuilder+software+developer&oq=careerbuilder+software+developer&aqs=chrome..69i57.533j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

If you have a favourite local job site that you like, analyse their website structure so that you can extract the url and use it for your boolean searches for remote jobs.

Tip: if you have some boolean remote job searches that give you great results including the last week’s results, copy and paste that complete Google search URL in a spreadsheet. That way you can click that link once per week to find the latest remote jobs.

10) Advanced tip: (optional) Get notifications for a new job for your remote work search query

You can add Distill.io, a Chrome Extension that allows you to monitor website changes.
https://distill.io/docs/web-monitor/distill-chrome-extension/?utm_source=install
After adding the extension to Chrome, you can create an account using your Google account information and by choosing a username.
inurl:indeed.com/viewjob “software developer”

To explain how this works, we have chosen distill.io but you can also search for “monitor web pages” and find an online website monitoring tool or extension that you prefer.
Many webpage watch tools are free to use but have some limitations and paid options as well.
Note: We never use affiliate links and we do not get paid for making recommendations.

There are several tools available and you can use a web based tool or a chrome extension.
You can get notifications immediately or by email.
We use this website monitoring tools for example to get a notification or email when a remote blog has posted a new article. We also use them for example to get a notification when a new podcast about remote work is added.

We found some mobile apps that you could use for monitoring remote job queries also:

Just an example of a remote work podcast that we follow:
https://gaana.com/podcast/be-remote-podcast-season-1
This is a good episode or how to find a remote job:
https://gaana.com/song/kate-smith-on-how-to-find-best-remote-job-1

This is what the watch page looks like:

(allow the image to open in a new window)

So now, when on Indeed.com a new job is posted for a software developer, I get a notification. This monitoring you can do for any search query that you like. The great thing about this application is that you get informed when something new is available and you can just relax until a new remote job that you are interested in becomes available. I changed the interval for checking to once per day because otherwise I got notifications all the time. Also the sound of a new update I turned off because the number on the chrome extension was enough for me to look at. Maybe just once per 24 hours an email would be enough as well.

For example, euremotejobs.com has hashtags that you can find with the right mouse button click and open in a new window. This way you can find for example https://euremotejobs.com/job-tag/entry-level/ and add a website monitor to this specific hashtag. You will get an email or notification when a new job is posted on euremotejobs.com of an entry level.

In case you are interested in a remote job for example from welocalize.com, you can add this page to your watchlist and get a notification when a new job gets added:
https://jobs.lever.co/welocalize

Some companies add the news or pricing page of their competition to a watcher so that they get a notification of the changes.

You can watch your favourite show page and get a notification of a new episode as soon as it becomes available. The possibilities are endless.
